In 1999, eight North Island brown kiwi were discovered in Ōhope Scenic Reserve, representing the last of their local population. The Whakatāne Kiwi Project was created to restore local kiwi numbers. Since then, the kiwi population in the Whakatāne area has grown to over 350! Whakatāne is now known as the Kiwi Capital of the World™.
A crushable pale ale created as a special collaboration between the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust, esteemed local artist Sam Poots, and Mata Beer.
4.7% alc/vol.
To support local conservation efforts, Mata is donating 8% of their proceeds from this can to the Whakatane Kiwi Trust.
